HTTP Proxy Server - Maximum Speed and Performance Tips
The easiest and most effective thing to do to make sure you get a fast proxy server is to setup one as close to the city you live in as you can. This sounds obvious and it should because distance is key as the less the distance the less time it will take. Always look to see if there are any hosting providers in your local cit. If you can't find any just try looking in a city larger than the one you live in. Failing that, check online to see if there are any surrounding countries that have hosting companies who you think might be able to help. The basic key here is that the closer the better. Less distance between your computer and the proxy means less time for any information sent to travel back and forth. This means that faster your internet surfing will be and the less likely you'll experience any major slow downs while online with the proxy.
Once you've found a host you need to run another test. Ask your host for an IP you can ping to test. Ping here is used to see what kind of internet connection you have between your computer and the host. Generally speaking, distance is key to speed and performance but you should really carry out the ping test to make sure the connection is fast. A simple ping command will test their connection and most major operating systems will have some kind of ping feature. What kind of results are you looking for when you ping the IP? The lower the ping response time the better. Ping times simply show how long it took for information to travel to the proxy. An ideal ping speed is around 250ms.
The truth is that a lot can affect the performance of a http proxy. Give these two tips a test for the next proxy you create. You should now be able to greatly reduce the problems of slow performing http proxies.

How To Use A HTTP Proxy
The first thing you must know about your http proxy server is what the IP and port number are. Without these two basic pieces of information you’ll need be able to connect to the proxy server. If you are searching for proxies online then commonly you’ll see the both the IP number and port displayed like this: IP:PORT. If the proxy server you are trying to use is free then that should be able all the information you need. However, if you are using a paid or exclusive proxy then there is a good chance that a username and password is required. The only way you’ll be able to get this is from whoever sells or rents the proxy setup. Once you have all this information then accessing and using the proxy is as simple as using any web browser.
Most of the major web browsing software available today has support for proxies. The area you need to visit will differ depending on the exact software you are using but it is commonly located in a settings and network area. You’ll see some reference to proxy or proxy servers. Once you’ve found it, all you need to do is to enter your IP, port number and any username or password if you have one. Once you’ve done that, using your proxy server is as simple as typing in the URL you want to visit. Your computer is now setup to access the HTTP proxy while you surf the internet. To disable the proxy just uncheck or delete the information you entered and you’ll no longer be using the http proxy server while web surfing. It is easy to see why knowing how to use a http proxy really isn’t that hard at all.

How Anonymous Are HTTP Proxies?
Sunday, October 25, 2009
Seeking a http proxy? It isn't always easy to be truly anonymous online and protect your real identity. Being anonymous online is done using a proxy server, but here is where the problems start. This is because there are so many types of proxy servers that it can be confusing for many people.
Proxy servers work by transferring data back to your computer while you are web surfing. The web surfing is really done with the proxy. Therefore, the IP used isn't your computer's but is actually the proxy server's IP.
This is possible because not only are you 100% anonymous, but the IPs they give you look like any normal IP found online and not a proxy IP. No-one can detect you have changed your IP. There is no use in changing your IP if someone can tell you have done it.
For anyone who is serious about changing their IP and , you can't get any better than a http proxy. The speed, anonymity and ability for IPs to be cloaked so you look like any other average Joe on the internet makes them the absolute best proxy solution.
